In the year 2015 the Lorentz Professorship will be held by Sir John B. Pendry, Imperial college- London, UK. Professor Pendry will give a course of three lectures on "Metamaterials, transformation optics and cloaks of invisibility". The lectures will be held on Tueaday May 19, Tuesday May 26 and Tuesday June 2 from 13.45-15.30 hrs.

The International Scientific Programme Committee is pleased to announcethe call for papers for the EST 2015. We are looking forwardto receiving your interesting 1-page contributions to our interdisciplinaryconference on Energy, Science and Technology.

Energy solutions for the future need to use the holistic approach.Therefore, our conference will cover the whole chain from fundamentalresearch through development and prototyping to demonstration and application. We invite not only scientists and researchers but also business people and companies, as well as the public sector to contribute their abstracts.

By submitting your abstract you can apply for an oral presentation (15 min. presentation + 5 min. discussion) or a poster. Your abstract will be peer-reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee. Authors, who are not accepted for an oral presentation, will be able to present their work during the poster session. The official conference language is English. Please find instructions on the abstract submission and a template on our website. The reviewed contributions will be published in an electronic book of abstracts, which will be distributed among the participants via USB-sticks and published on our website.

PLANCKS 2015 zal van 22 tot en met 24 mei in Leiden plaatsvinden. Dit is een uitgelezenkans voor Leiden om naam te maken in de internationale natuurkunde gemeenschap enbuitenlandse studenten onze universiteit te laten zien. Daarnaast heeft het openingssymposiumvorig jaar veel media aandacht genoten in Nederland.Het evenement begint op vrijdag met een openingssymposium waar internationaal gerenomeerdeonderzoekers lezingen zullen geven om de deelnemers te inspireren en te stimuleren.Zaterdag zal de wedstrijd plaatsvinden, waar de deelnemers in teams van vier personenzoveel mogelijk van tien opgaven proberen op te lossen. Hierna kunnen de deelnemerskiezen uit verschillende excursies zoals een labtour of een bezoek aan het natuurkundemuseumBoerhaave. Het avondprogramma zal bestaan uit een borrel, een diner en een feestter bevordering van de integratie tussen de deelnemers. Op zondag is de prijsuitreiking inhet Academiegebouw van Leiden, waar ook een selectie van de antwoorden van de opgavenbesproken zal worden. Voor de deelnemers die Nederland verder willen ontdekken zal er opzondag nog een facultatieve excursie georganiseerd worden.

Op 22 mei 2015 organiseert Marie Curie, de studievereniging voor natuur- en sterrenkunde uit Nijmegen,  haar jaarlijkse symposium

De titel van het symposium is "Fundamental Forces". Er zullen 5 lezingen worden gegeven m.b.t. de 4 fundamentele krachten en unificatie.
